Information for   Summary The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, also known as the LMU, the Universität München or the University of Munich, was founded in 1472 and is one of the oldest universities in Germany. With approximately 50,000 registered students, it is one of the largest universities in Germany. There are 20 faculties (Fakultäten), organized into 178 academic institutes and clinics. Approximately 51% of the students are registered in the various arts faculties. Just over half of all the matriculated students are women. Only a social contribution for the support of the Studentenwerk (student services).   Housing If you are a program student, at the same that you receive your offer of admission, you will receive a "Room Reservation form (Anmeldung zur Reservierung eines Wohnplatzes). In order to reserve a room in a student dormitory, you must fill out and sign this form and return it to the International Office by the date indicated. The International Office will then send the reservation form to the Student Services Organization Office (Studentenwerk), which administers the dormitories. The Studentenwerk will inform you about your room assignment and request that you sign and return a form confirming acceptance of your room assignment (Annahmebestätigung).   Visa Requirements If you are a citizen of a country which is not a member of the European Union (EU) and wish to study in Germany for more than three months, you must have a residence permit sticker attached to your passport before you enter Germany.
