  Language of instruction
German is the language of instruction at Austrian institutions of higher education. If there are doubts whether or not applicants have a sufficient command of German, they may be required to pass a German Proficiency Examination (Hochschulsprachprüfung in Deutsch) before registering for courses as a regular degree programme students.

  Tuition and fees
Students from the following countries have to pay a tuition fee of 4.000,-- Austrian Schillings per semester: Andorra, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Latvia, Monaco, Mongolia, New Zealand, North Korea, Romania, Russia, San Marino, South Africa, Switzerland, Ukrainia, the United States and the Vatican.

  Visa Requirements
The following regulations apply to all students with the exception of citizens from EU and EFTA member states: All students coming to Austria for the purpose of study or research are required to have a valid visa (Visum, gültiger Sichtvermerk) or a residency permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung). Students should not enter Austria as tourists or with a tourist visa.
NOTE: It is not possible to submit an initial application for a residency permit in Austria. Therefore, students must have received their visa or residency permits before they begin their studies in Austria. Visa and residency laws are subject to change.
