Visa Requirements The following regulations apply to all students with the exception of citizens from EU and EFTA member states: All students coming to Austria for the purpose of study or research are required to have a valid visa (Visum, gültiger Sichtvermerk) or a residency permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung). Students should not enter Austria as tourists or with a tourist visa. NOTE: It is not possible to submit an initial application for a residency permit in Austria. Therefore, students must have received their visa or residency permits before they begin their studies in Austria. Visa and residency laws are subject to change.
