  Summary
The University of Barcelona (UB) was founded in 1450. The present central building was inaugurated in 1871.

Today the university has four campuses, in different parts of the city. The UB is the oldest and largest of the six universities in Barcelona, and of the ten in Catalonia.

It has 74.000 students --more than half of the total student population of Catalonia-- and is the second largest in terms of students number in Spain.

  Language of instruction
Admission is always conditional on students having sufficient knowledge in Catalan and/or Spanish to be able to follow classes at the UB.

First semester: from between September 15 and 22 to between December 19 and 22
Second semester: from between February 9 and 16 to between May 22 and 29
  Tuition and fees
The monthly expenses of a foreign student can range between 60,000 and 70,000 ptas (360.607 to 420.708 Euros) per month.
  Housing
-Student Residences
This residence offers single, double, triple and quadruple rooms with individual or shared bathroom. There are also computer rooms, television rooms, a dining hall and laundry services. Prices per day range from 3000 pesetas including breakfast for a single room, to 10,800 pesetas including breakfast for a quadruple room.

  Visa Requirements
Foreign students from non-European Union countries and from the European Economic Area should apply for a police permit authorizing them to stay in Spain.
