I have stayed in B.A. for several months. 2 of those months, I rented my own apartment in the Congreso area. I found the place through Iagora.
I just wanted to suggest that if anyone does the same, and contacts Mario Toer (the landlord), they wil be in for a pleasant surprise. The apartment is clean, central and nice and Mario is a kind man, offering all the help he can. Thanks Mario.

"Great advice on Buenos Aires"
written:
13 January 2003
I visited Buenos Aires last November and my first impression was: What a cool city!
News were so drastic about the country´s situation that I thought I would find myself in the middle of chaos.
Nonsense.
I hired someone to assist me during my stay and it was a wise decision. I had someone waiting for me at the airport who also arranged the accommodation and activities for me. I took a knowledgable private city tour and was able to sightsee not only the widely known spots but also went off the tourist track. Then I went to El Tigre and didn´t miss tango classes and a traditional tango show. Things were easier and my stay far more than pleasant thanks to having hired a native guide. Check it out wow@fibertel.com.ar
Be careful about tipping: just a few bucks is enough. Also be aware that most prices are more expensive for tourists yet the city is still a bargain. Buenos Aires has it all.
Pros: exciting cosmopolitan city looks like Paris
Cons: children begging on streets

I spent the best days in this city, and in this Hostel. It´s very friendly. The decoration is incredibly original it surprised me a lot. The area is very safe and traditional, not full of tourists everywhere, just porteños. There is a big patio and lots of outdoor activities. I felt at home.

"A taste of the PAMPAS"
written:

If you are in Buenos Aires/Argentina for a short time and want to experience the Gauchos and Pampa lifestyle, take a train, bus or drive to SAN ANTONIO DE ARECO, a town 113 km west of Buenos Aires home of the famous writer Ricardo Guiraldes. In San ANTONIO DE ARECO you will find nice country restaurants and parrillas, pulperias (pampa's pubs) and Museos Gauchescos with gaucho's history and paraphernalia. There's a beautiful river and a park area for pic-nics. Also a nice country fair in weekends. A special date is November 10th "DIA de la TRADICION" with lots of shows going on.
Pros: Big display of Gaucho and Pampa lifestyle
Cons: Very much crowded in spring weekends

For those of you who are looking to get with more beautiful Argentinian girls than you can handle - trust me, go here.
There are no tourists here (it doesn't look like much from the outside and there's no advertising for it) - so Gringo guys are a novelty - you will have a distinct advantage.
There's also a chill balcony on top where people smoke weed, talk and make out.
Also live music every once in a while - I suggest this place and if Horatio is still working there tell him Brian from NY says hi.
Pros: Lots of ladies, good atmosphere, very social
Cons: No balcony if raining, not that big

the Hostel-Inn on Humberto Primo 820 (between Piedras and Tacuari in San Telmo) is your only choice if you are looking to have a good time in Buenos Aires, meet people and go places you would never have found.
I stayed for only 10 days and I did not want to leave. People suggested the greatest places to go and things to do.
If I had stayed in a Hotel I would've payed more, done less and met none of the great people I did. The people that work there will go out with you - it's a blast. Good times - no lie.
Trust me, you must stay here.

"Transportation in BUENOS AIRES"
written:
17 February 2002
I don't clearly understood what that guy clem says in French, but here are some tips for getting (lost) around in this 14 million people city.
First, if you get to Argentina by plane the bugest option to get to downtown Buenos Aires from the airport is by bus. City line 86 runs from the airport parking to Plaza de Mayo. Takes like 1 1/2 hours but you save like 15 bucks. Tip the driver if you're carrying big bags.
Then...do not loose your head. Metro (Subte) is the easyest way to get around. Ask for a map in every station as maps are not well spread out.
The Subte runs from 6am 'til 10pm. Later you have to take a bus. If you are 3 or 4 take a taxi, you can work out the price with the driver.
In the rest of Argentina, hitchhiking is safe and a nice way to meet people.
Have a good trip!!!
Pros: Buses run all night long
Cons: We are still a developing country

"Buenos Aires for Music Lovers"
written:
17 February 2002
If you are in Buenos Aires and the weekend it's coming you could feel very disoriented and confused about the big variety of music events that will be going on in the city. So, let's sort some styles and the perfect venues for enjoy an unforgetable night.
TANGO...(Do not go to tango shows in San Telmo, there are all set for turism and all are expensive). A great place is Club del Vino in Calle Cabrera 4737, check when Orquesta Salgan is playing. They have also good Jazz nights. Then go for a drink to nearby Plaza Cortazar (aka. Serrano).
On Tuesday at 20hs. dont miss a real Milonga at Poteno, on Riobamba 345. You can get classes before the dance starts.
CUMBIA...Cumbia is a South American rythm inspired in Merengue, Salsa and Ballenato. Cumbia clubs are frequent visited by low class people. A good one is Metropolis, just 200m from plaza Italia. Go with a local, do not look as tourist.
LIVE BANDS...in bars and other venues. Just buy CLARIN papper on friday and check de SI! section. Tons of shows with dates and styles of music.
HOUSE/TECHNO...first check: www.buenosaliens.com.ar (best source for electro events in BA). You can get many flyers of electronic parties at Galeria Bond Street on Ave. Santa Fe 1670.
International DJ's at Pacha's Clubland nights.
Deep Tech-House at Confiteria La Ideal on Suipacha 384. The after-hours is K2 on Ave. de Mayo 948.
JAZZ...Club del Vino is a nice place mentioned above. Also Cafe Tortoni on Av. de Mayo 945 hosts ragtime bands. Some bars is San Telmo neiborhood have also some live Jazz bands.
FOLKLORE AREGENTINO...This is traditional music from the northen provinces. A nice place is in Austria street between Juncal and French.
Well...now you have no excuses to get bored in Buenos Aires.

"The best meat to taste is in Argentina!"
written:
01 June 2001
Argentina is a world leader in the raising of livestock. The Argentines eat a lot of meat and in Buenos Aires there are some excellent restaurants specialising in asados, or grills.
I do not remember the exact name of the restaurant I have been, since that was 10 years ago, but I remember seeing huge pieces of lamb from the windows, slowly being grilled. It made me hungry instantly!
My family and I ordered a mixed grill, so we could try all there is they were offering. And, uhhh, it was amazing! The pieces were soo huge, that I could be eating one for a couple of days! Real chuletons! :)
So, to keep it short, guys, if you ever visit Argentina and you have one hour to spend, (and you are not a vegetarian, heh!), getting an amazing meal that consists of their meat is a MUST! ;)
Pros: - heaven for your taste buds!!
Cons: - if UR in Europe or about, it is a long way to go
