I haven´t been to Belo Horizonte but I have visited lovely place near it. Ouro Preto. It is realy nice little city with "zigzag" streets. You can visit many churches or gold mine near city. Be prepare people, excepting young students and few tourist guides, don´t speak english Don´t change American express here, it is too unadvantageous. Don´t be affraid to talk with tourist guides (Ouro is full of them) they can seem like sharpers, but they are official employees of tourist agencies, (or state/city?) Ouro Preto is good place for students which study here but If you aren´t, don´t stay here more then one day. You can make interesting photos here, I think streets and architecture here is inspirative.
