Fortaleza is less crowded than the Caribbean, but has all the same attractions!: "Looking for a great place to honeymoon?"

written: 16 January 2002
Fortaleza is a modern city complete with a Pizza Hut (a rarity in Brazil). Its beaches and natural attractions rival those of the Caribbean, and have the added bonus of pleasant Brazilian merchants and natives. Come play on the quiet white sand and drink from a coconut while you listen to some locals practice their samba music.

Pros: best of both worlds-city and beach!
Cons: it can be overbearingly hot in January and Feb.

Black beans, rice, and coconuts: "You won't go hungry....."

written: 21 February 2001
When I visited Fortaleza, I couldn't stop eating the food! It was so incredibly good. I ate a lot of black beans, rice, delicious desserts, and the juice from coconuts. They actually put a straw in a coconut and you drink right from it. My friend who I was visiting couldn't believe how much I ate-but sorry, I just couldn't help it.

Driving a car: "Crazy I tell you!"

written: 21 February 2001
While I was in Fortazleza for about three weeks, I learned to drive a manual car. I thought I was going to die! The driving there is crazy and road rules don't seem to exist. If you don't feel like waiting at a red light, go ahead and go-it's really no problem-trust me-just remember to wear you seatbelt at all times!

Orbita: "You must visit this bar!"

written: 21 February 2001
Fortaleza is a beautiful and unforgettable city. A bar called 'Orbita' that I went to was particularily amazing. It had these huge open windows that made you feel like you were almost outside. Live bands and great drinks made me want to stay out all night which wasn't a problem since the bars stay open until early in the morning.
