I was in Rio last week and for the first time I rented a vacation apartment in Rio. I stayed there for a week and it was just perfect. Besides allowing us to have guets over, this company (www.rioapartmentrentals.com) has some great condos in there.I stayed in Ipanema and loved it. By the way: Go to Ipanema and not Copacabana!!!!!!!

all Art Deco building and has a large, comfortable reception/TV area with its own bar looking out to another eating area on a veranda shaded with hanging ferns. The main bedroom has a huge double bed, loads of storage and air conditioning. The smaller bedroom is also a double and has a fan and internet access.The kitchen is clean and fully equipped and there's a utility area where you can gaze at the mountains while you hang up your bikini. The street is brilliantly located between 3 great shopping/eating areas and boasts its own friendly taxi rank for longer journeys. It's one street back from the lagoon itself, so I spent many afternoons just gawping at the view as I walked, ran or cycled along the water-side footpath to the bars, restaurants, boutiques and, most imporant, BEACH of Ipanema! It's just £2,000 for the month, including a lovely cleaner/cook once a week!

Ipanema is the best area to stay in Rio. It's safe, clean, modern and doesn't have people hustling you for 1 real every other block like Copacabana does. You can walk everywhere and everything is close by. Restarants, bars, clubs, you name it and of course the beach in Ipanema is a must. In Rio I stayed at Maria's (www.takeoff.to/rio). Nearby, next to the shopping center Rio Sul, there is the music hall Canecao where famous Brasilan Singers do their shows. We used to go there at 10.30 pm just when the show was about to start and there were usually a few men there in front of the place who wanted to sell some tickets. Keeping cool we could get two tickets of the best seats for 20 instead of 100 Real.

Hello. Well, I have some recommendations. In Ihla Bela, I recommend Canto Bravo if you're the adventurous type. If you want something more luxurious, I'd say Piuva or something in between Porto Paquibo which is near the pretty Viana beach. In Ihla Grande I recommend Manaca, a really nice pousada with ocean views.

As everyone knows, Corcovado, the marble statue of Christ, is Rio most famous monument. It is definitely a must go! You will see the most amazing view of your life! Make sure you bring your camera for some outstanding pictures and tease everyone back home
