If you are visiting Montreal for a week, then I suggest you buy the weekly pass, for 12,50$. It allows you to take both means of transportation, and probably better than buying 6 tickets for.. I think 8$.
If you do buy the tickets and plan to take the metro then the bus, don't forget to get a "transfer" ticket (in those metallic boxes, just before the stairs going down to the metro). If you take the bus, then the metro, the driver will automatically give you a transfer ticket good for the metro.
Pros: public transportation
Cons: its public transportation! can be slow
