A day in Lappeenranta: "Lappeenranta Shopping Day"

Having spent a week at an isolated cottage, jumping in the lake, cycling and having saunas every day, we decided to go to the nearest town just to make sure that the human race was still there, and had not been taken over by gnats!
Arriving in Lappeenranta, it was market day, a lovely summers day with the smell of fresh strawberries in the air. A very relaxed shopping atmoshere, being a person who HATES shopping, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually enjoyed shopping in this environment. No need to lock our bikes outside the shopping centre! No hoardes of people pushing and shoving, no crime evident. There was a great selection of shops and a very nice indoor shopping precinct. Then a short walk to the harbour and the old town for ice cream and for souvenirs, reindeer rugs, beautifully crafted wooden artefacts. Also the more well-known designs of Marimeko, glassware, and great Hakmann cutlery are also available. As one who dislikes shopping immensely, I would highly recommend Lappeenranta for a day's shopping.

Cons:
Details: Fly to Helsinki, internal flight to Lappeenranta
