Nice: "Pretty poor nitelife and beach isn't too appealing"
written:
14 July 2003
When I stayed in Nice, I was very impressed by the beautiful women, the weather and the shops. I wasn't impressed by the nitelife however. 'Vieux Nicce' or 'Old Nice' district was busy but there were only a few bars/pubs there, mainly restaurants. Also, there are not too many niteclubs in Nice, so its difficult to meet beautiful women at night. Nice seems to be a couples place as well. Need to be able to speak good French as well to make the most of the nightlife. The beach is very stony and sun-bathing can be annoying lying on these stones. The sea floor also drops very quickly as you walk into the water and so you need to be a good swimmer to enjoy the water. Preferred Cannes to Nice.
Pros: Good weather, beautiful women, good shops
Cons: Nitelife is quiet/expensive,not a singles place

But beware of the cost!!: "Nice Drinking Rules"

I have been studying in Nice for 2 years now, its a cool place just to hang out!
When you're in Nice, the only place to go " according to us, and the fact that it's the only busy bar (PUB) in town is Mc Mahon's
They've been open for a staggering 75 years so that proves it's popular!
They have plenty of Theme nights like The Oscars, Prisoners, James Bond etc… and they celebrate the usual ones (To the MAX!) like St. Paddy's, 4th July, St. Georges Day, Fête de la Musique etc..
On Tuesdays they have 'Cheap Tuesday' " 2€ for a screwdriver or whisky & Coke or a G&T
Making it easy to get very very drunk!! Normal price in Nice for mixed drinks is 7€!!!
On Thursday they have Bingo " win fab prizes and drinks, new game every hour!!
Everyday they have Happy Hour 4€ a pint
They have Live English Soccer, and most sports on there big screen TV
3 pool tables, and 2 terraces, one VIP terrace, have to look cool to get up there!!
Open everyday from 3pm to 2am!
Check it out!!
Mc Mahon's Pub
50 Boulevard Jean Jaures
06300 Nice
www.mcmahonspub.com - great site !!!
As for the other bars, Wayne's to WAY to expensive, Thor is cool, and after 2am, Blue Whales is a great place to hang, and all the bar staff from Mc Mahon's hang out there when they get of shift
Nice is a cool place " enjoy " we did!!
Pros: The sun is Hot baby - Yeah
Cons: Nice is Expensive beware of tourist traps
Rating: 4/4

Nice: "Where Not to go in France:"
written:

But nice, the place that is oh so famous for its beaches, its shopping and its salad, a haven, and so close to Monaco (not Munich in Italian), why wouldnt i want to come here.
Ontop of the loud and overly pale "new russians" , fat loud uncultured pompous americans, old germans who when shirtless show massive veins from the overconsumption of "bier" and the Brits who with their elitist attitude sniff at everything, nice boasts a failry poor nighlife, mediocre quality food(unless you are there as a "freind" of a local), overpiced hotels, and little in the areas of culture.
Monaco is close, but it is a pain, if you know the family, it can be amusing to see what sort of nonsence theyll write about you in the tabloids, but otherwise there really is nothing to do here.
Now this is written from the perspective of a 22 year old, if you want fun in the sun, and water, i reccomend Catalunya.
Pros: if you ahve a family, its allright
Cons: too many to list

Name of the streets: "A funny thing"
written:

It's quite funny that the names of Nice's streets is written in both French and Niçoise dialect. But this doesn't want to say that the Niçoise name is the exact translation of the French one. So be careful when you're given directions...

The Flower Market is held on the morning in the ancient part of the city; it's a typical niçoise event.

Spending the summer studying may not sound thrilling but in such a glittering place as Nice, you don't really mind...: "Sun City: Study in Nice"
written:
24 July 2001
Nice has often been written away as too touristy, tacky even, but for me it's certainly the most buzzing Riviera city;more friendly and down to earth than neighbouring Monaco and livelier than Antibes. I chose to study French Philosophy at "International House";the school's location means you can easily drift from the modern town (the fancy shops,"Galleries Lafayette") to the curious little "Vieux Ville", with it's faded pink and yellow facades and rustic cafes.Choose a course with not so many course hours (!) and spend all your free time down the beach-pebbled, yes, but that's not the end of the world.Join the crowds and rollerblade along the Promenade Anglaise between lessons! And being an International school, you get to meet and live with people from all over the world-try sharing a flat with crazy chics from kazakhstan, poland and germany- no excuse for not speaking French!
Pros: beach, sun, people, atmosphere
Cons: endless crowds and queues, costly

Haute Couture: "Nicoise in the Season"

I'm trying to lead you on a virtual walking tour of my world, and
hopefully your feet dont hurt too badly, because mine do. Actually, nobody wears the type of shoes that could possibly be comfortable to walk in . They are mostly black leather, and women have knee high boots. Dressing down for me involves taking my pants off and hanging out on the couch in my boxers for a couple hours. Dressing down for these Armani clad Euros involves unbottoning the top button of their suit jacket, or maybe allowing their scarf to drape over their shoulders instead of coiling it up python-style around their neck.
It is about seventy degrees out there and heavy wool sweaters over collared shirts, with jackets over it all outnumber teeshirts. By exposing my arms when I wear short sleeves, I get more looks than OJ Simpson in a knife shop. I am so easily labeled an American. Even if I donned all dark colors in the height of fashion designer labels and chainsmoked Lucky Strike cigarettes while sipping out of two ounce cups of coffee, legs crossed at an outdoor cafe, people would know. There is no escape. Come prepared with your darks and don't mind the smoke (83% of the French do it)

Nice's Farmer's Market: "Le Marche Aux Fleurs"
written:
16 April 2001
They are all best purchased at the largest street market in Nice, Le Marche aux fleurs, which means Flower market. While the array of floral offerings is quite something, the flower merchants are only set up two days a week. Three of the other days the vendors are local farmers who come in between 9am and 1pm (which is 13 O'clock here, as most of Europe reads in Military time). These days you can walk the stretches of the six block, two laned market between stands loaded with vine-ripe tomatoes, walnuts, cheeses and bread, varieties of olives, spices, homemades jams and pastries, among countless other items. Including tripe. While even 13 O'clock (treize heures) has been a little too early on many mornings, we went yesterday at about a quarter till, to find merchants ready to pack up, and thus liquidating their daily produce. We scored 5 kilos of fresh tomatoes, which is twelve pounds, or two very full bags for the equivalent of about a dollar-fifty. About thirty oranges put us back two dollars, etc. For less than twenty bucks, we got what I figure would have been a sixty dollar grocery affair in the states.

and some are inexpensive too: "So much to choose from"

The "Centre Ville" of Nice is the best place to go for an incredible variety of restaurants. You can choose between a romantic dinner at one of the restaurants on the Promenade des Anglais on the beach(a little more $$$) or squeeze between lots of other good looking French, Spanish, German, or Italian tourists at one of the thousand pizzerias. This area is lots of fun!!
Pros: great variety in cuisine
Cons: not very good service

Hotel de France: "Stay in cheap Hotels, not hostels"
written:
29 June 2000
When you step off the train in Nice, hang a sharp left. walk down the street a bit and you'll reach a hotel that I think is called the Hotel de France. (Seriously) It's cheaper than a hostel, if you're travelling in pairs, it's a private room. The bathroom was seedy but the smelly guy at the front desk was perfectly
Pros: cheap, clean (enough for me)
Cons: seedy bathroom, smelly guy at front desk
