The Nature of Ancona's Uniqueness: "Unspoiled Ancona"

Most cities in Italy the size of Ancona are tourist traps, reflected in hotel prices, number of taxis, international business presence and number of souvenir shops. This, however, is not true of Ancona. A good-sized, bustling, prosperous city, Ancona quietly goes about being a modern, yet authentic Italian city. Having lost many of its historical monuments because of war, few tourists add Ancona to their itineraries. However, Ancona is a great place to visit if your purpose is to see how an unspoiled Italian city lives and breathes. Busy port, growing airport, bustling commerce, great Economics department at the University, Ancona is a strategic place to live, study and work. Take an evening stroll down Corso Garibaldi and you'll know what I mean. Stand at the Monumento Ai Caduti on a clear, Spring day and you'll catch it. Spend a Ferragosto down at one of the secluded grottas and you've found it. Ancona is Italy free and unfettered...proud and yet humble all at once.
Pros: Quiet, unique, large, unspoiled city.
Cons: Not easy to get from airport to city center.
