Business is business in Milan too, of course: there are many banks (overall the "Cariplo", whose building is nick-named "Ca' de Sass", which means "House made out of stones"), a stock exchange ("la Borsa"), financial corporations, newspaper, press and books editors (the most important italian newspaper, "Il Corriere della Sera", is printed in Milan; Rizzoli is one of the most important italian editors), private television networks (Canale 5, Italia 1 and Rete 4, referring to Mediaset, a corporation founded many years ago by Silvio Berlusconi, recent former italian Prime Minister), advertising agencies, industrial, commercial, service and design corporations. You can find here three main Universities (State, Catholic and Bocconi Uni), scientific research institutes, trading fairs (the "Fiera Campionaria" in April, overall, was very famous). It isn't true: Milan isn't ugly, foggy, cold and only money-oriented. Milan is a bit of New York, a bit of London, a bit of Paris. Here you can find historical roots: it's a celtic, roman, spanish, french, austrian, italian city, two times destroyed, always new blooming. Here you can find art (Leonardo da Vinci, Raffaello, Michelangelo, Mantegna, Bramante, Caravaggio, Tintoretto, Canova), fashion (Versace, Valentino, Armani, Gucci, Trussardi, Prada; made in Italy means made in Milan and sold in via Montenapoleone, via della Spiga, via Manzoni, via S. Andrea and so on). Prices aren't everywhere cheap, but you can find everything in Milan. Moreover, there's business, too, with its stock exchange ... but I'll tell you about that in iMilan n. 2.
