The first time I was here in Japan, I desperately wanted to go to Hiroshima. I was staying in Tokyo and was able to accompany coworkers to the city. I had one day to do it. So we took the Bullet Train and the trip took 5 hours. I had no idea what to expect of Hiroshima since my only point of reference (truly american) was that was where we dropped the bomb. I found myself asking my japanese friends if it was OK going as an american... even 55 years later. I was impressed by how large and beautiful the city was. We went to the Abomb dome and the museum. Then we took a tram to a ferry over to Miyajima Island. This is ranked as one of the top 3 most beautiful places in Japan. It is. You get off the ferry and are welcomed by deer. They are almost domesticated and roam freely in the streets! You walk through the touristy winding road lined with shops and souvenirs. Miyajima is breathtaking and has a huge gate coming out of the sea. The shrines and temple are a magnificent red hue. I highly recommend checking this place out!
