The fun of Mombasa: "Great city in the sun!"

Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya. it is located on the south eastern coast of the country not too far from Tanzania. It is an old city that dates back to before the European explorers set out to see the world. It is important to remeber that this is a Muslim town so women dress a little conservative around town. However, on the beach, bikinis are fine, just do not go topless! Areas of interest are obviously the beaches, but also fort Jesus. it is the oldest fort in Africa and was founded by the Portugese, although over its lifetime it changed hands seven times! It is an amazing historical site. the guides there are very well educated on the fort itself and the surrounding old town area. make sure to take a guided walk through old town, it is incredible! As far as hotels go, i reccomend either White Sands, for those with money to spend, and the Indian for the more budgeted traveler. They are located near each other in Bumburi beach, where the best night clubs are. For nightlife check out my review in the nightlife section. Mombasa is a lot different than nairobi so shed any expectations of it you generate by being in the capital city. it is a lot safer and you can walk around at night in most areas, NEVER do that in nairobi! All in all, mombasa is a great place to visit or live!
