Salterio: "For tea lovers"
written:
19 October 2000

Salterio is a tiny café/restaurant close to Plaza Sant Jaume. Besides serving lots of different kinds of teas, they also have some good food that could be classified as mediterranean. I remember once having a very good cheese pita.
Pros: Intimate atmosphere. Good tea and food.
Cons: Small portions. Small place.

Les relais du Venise: "Paris in Barcelona"
written:
19 October 2000

A friend told me about this restaurant. It's super famous in Paris, but in Barcelona, still not a lot of people know about it. Lucky one if you're in Barcelona and reading this review... This restaurant only offers one dish. Yes, only one 'cos they cook it soooo well, that don't need to cook anything else. You first get a salad with 5 different types of lettuce and the house's special vinagrette dressing and then you get the big piece of meat with delicious french fries. Yummy! The wine of the house is a bordeaux, I liked it. The menu of desserts is amazing: lots of desserts to choose from, all homemade, try one (or more), all of them are delicious.
Pros: Really good homemade food. Not very expensive.
Cons: If you like variety, don't go there.

Paellas in BCN: "Where to eat paella"
written:
18 October 2000

Ok, have to admit that paella is one of the most tipical Spanish dishes. Even if it's originary from Valencia, nowadays you can find paellas all over Spain.
So, if you want to eat a paella in Barcelona, go to La Barceloneta quarter. Basically all the neighborhood is a good place to get a good paella.
Oh, and supposedly the time to eat a paella is at lunch, so you can take a siesta afterwards!
Rating: just a tip
Details: Barceloneta is a neighbourhood right in front of the sea, very close to the harbor area.

Bar-B-Que: "Bar-B-Que"

i have no idea what this place is called and only sketchy details as to how to get there but i can tell you that this bar-b-que spot is a particularly fine way to spend an afternoon. In a forest setting, this is basically a bunch of tables haphazardly put together serviced by a bar and the eponymous barbecue. basically, you arrive up, ask for a seat, the fat woman takes your order (this is not one for the vegetarians) and you dig in. the wine comes in a thing called a porron, which is basically a glass bubble with a narrow snout. you have to tilt the glass over your head a let the wine spurt into your mouth. great fun that gets you dog drunk in no time. i´d wear old clothes. finally, after eating and drinking your fill, lay down in the grass for a quick nap before returning dizzily, happily home.

Details: take the fgc to baixador de vallviderera, cross the road to your left and walk up the hill until you reach the barbeque.

Sikkim: "Trendy and tasty"

Sikkim is a pretty young and hip restaurant that is perfect for a date. Really good food and located in the up-and-coming area of El Borne, accross from the Marcado del Borne
You should book in advance if you want to get a table downstairs. Try the Mero (fish) and 'rosettas de platano' (desert). It's not cheap but you can have a 2-course meal and wine for 3000 ptas.
Pros: food, ambience, location, people

Il Mercante di Venezia: "Pasta and pizza off the Ramblas"
written:

This is an Italian restaurant that could easily be missed walking by it. It's got good food, prices are really decent priced (850 ptas for most kinds of pasta). The atmosphere and decoration is nice, the people are real italians and it feels like it's not the typical tourist joint. Nearby there are plenty of places to go for a drink afterwards. There's one very popular spot right accross the street, Margarita Blue. All this is 3 mins walking distance from the statue of Columbus.
I recommend the Tagliatelle Pescadora.
Pros: prices, atmosphere
