walking out of town: "crazy walks"

written: 16 April 2003
Barcelona was full of people banging pots and trying to burn down McDonalds so I went on a walk out in the country with a deranged Brit a college friend in London told me about. The standard plan seems to be to take a train out to the middle of nowhere, walk up a tarantula-infested mountain, drink wine and eat cheese and sausages in a very dirty bar behind a barn, walk through a forest on the other side, drink some beer with very old men in a village and then take a train back. He's clearly mad, but he knows his stuff. Site is http://followthebaldie.com. Try to get him to put on the dress when he takes you out " we failed.

Pros: views, food, drink, roman head
Cons: tiring if you're not used to walking
Rating: 3/4

Sport caffés in sitges: "Can't miss the game???"

written: 02 July 2001
For all of you sport lovers, whether football (soccer), or baseball, basketball or ragby, there are couple of places that will help you not miss the match! One of them is a bar called Sport Caffé, a really awesome place filled with sport requisites and huge TV screens where you can watch games, and have a drink or a whole meal. Another place is solely focused on football (soccer), and is located just opposite to a Mexican bar Panchito's. You can see Dutch football flags (Orange flag with a lion, for those of you who have no clue) from the outside. Furthermore, in the break-time, you can GetConnected to the internet, and check your mail or the scores! :)

Pros: great atmosphere, sport all day and night long!!
Cons: it gets full, so come earlier to have a seat
Rating: just a tip

German bar in Sitges: "The best 'würst' (sausages) in Sitges"

written: 02 July 2001
If you are not one of those people that can eat a ful meal for dinner, like most Catalans do, but more a snack, and you want to have a taste of a good German beer, there is a place for you in Sitges. Once you pass the central square (with a city clock and a pharmacy!) and forward towards the pubs and clubs of Sitges, the second bar on your left is THE place. You will see the ads for German beer, and a menu filled with all kinds of german sausages (bratwürst, frankfurt-würst and much more!). If you are lucky, you will be served by a girl that looks like a ful-grown Spanish Heidi! ;) The beer is really good and the whole atmosphere can be quite confusing: you are in Spain after all (ups, Catalunya, I mean!...no offence Catalans!), but you happen to be fully enjoying german cuisine.

Pros: great german beer and sausages
Cons: it is almost always ful, so fight for the place!;)

Restaurant "Elephant" in Sitges: "Food from heaven"

written: 02 July 2001
Last weekend I had one of those nice, romantic dinners, and it happened to be in a newly opened restaurant in Sitges, called "Elephant". If you are in a mood to taste the most exquisite salads, and continue with a variety of main dishes (buffalo meat, great Thai rice, sea-food in many combinations) and then crown it with delicious desserts (definitely try Forrest Fruit with Vanilla cream!!!!), this is one of those AMAZING places!! To make sure you have a table, better reserve it in advance. ;)

Pros: delicious, heavenly, addictive
Cons: a bit expensive, but it is worth it
Rating: 4/4

"Girona, the catalonian medieval city"

written: 31 January 2001
Visit Girona is just a back to the medieval past. Come and discover its gardens, its fortifications around the city, its churches, its cathedral (under construction right now...It's a pity), its jewish quarter (with narrow and dark streets), and so many things...<BR> Let you charmed by the beautiful view of the old city, as if you was in Venice, in Italy...

Cons: Don't go on sundays in winter: there's nobody !!!

Tarragona: ""roman ruins rock""

written: 17 October 2000
An hour by train from Barcelona, the seaside town of Tarragona is home to a host of fascinating roman ruins. One of the most important spanish towns during the Roman era, the Tarragona was a walled city with an impressive amphitheatre in the town centre and an aquaduct outside the town. The amphitheatre is very well preserved and it´s possible to get a real feel for what it might have been like to have actually sat in the stands so many years ago. the aquaduct, however, is the standout sight. About ten minutes outside the town, it towers over an overgrown valley. for those who are not faint-hearted it´s possible to walk across the top, though looking at it now it´s difficult to tell how the thing worked. Finish your day with an evening beer on la rambla and contentment be thy name.

Pros: great sights

Cadaqués: "Cadaqués, the loveliest sea town"

written: 11 October 2000
Well, this little sea town is closer to Girona than to Barcelona, but if you're around Barcelona, you can't miss it. Dali, the famous painter, used to spend lots of time there, sometimes with his friends: Buñuel and Lorca. It's a magic town, surrounded by mountains.

Pros: Peaceful, beautiful, special, amazing
Cons: sometimes lots of people
Rating: 4/4
Details: From the bus station "estació del Nord" you can take the bus company "Sarfa" that will take you there.

Sitges is a town pretty close to Barcelona. It's a beautiful one with great beaches. Oh, and the carnaval celebrated in February is also tons of fun. You gotta go there if you're close to there in February and if you want to have fun.

Cons: Lots of people
