If you want to take a break from the Barcelona nightlife, go to the Malda movie theatre. One screen, two movies. A double feature for one low price, about 825ptas. Even cheaper on Mondays, about 600ptas. They play a wide range of movies, from a Cannes award winner to titles such as South Park.

Pros: Two movies for one low price
Cons: No popcorn or candy sold on premises

La Vinya del Senor: "Happiness through wine"

written: 18 January 2001
While in Barcelona, I discovered an amazing wine bar, in an amazing location. Its called "La Vinya del Senor" (Sorry, I don't have that ~ thing on my "n"!). You can't miss it, because its right in front of the Sta-Maria del Mar Cathedral. Beautiful location! Their wine menu boasts a very good variety of wines from all over Spain (naturally), but also a very good selection from other important wine regions in the world. I am a wine lover, so I had a good time, and I ordered, along with my friends, a nice bottle of red wine from the Ribero area. They also offer cheese and olives and other little tapas, to accompany your wine. All staff members are Sommeliers! Cool!

Pros: Great location, great wines, great people
Rating: 4/4
Details: Don't know the exact address, but its on the Plaça of Sta-Maria del Mar Cathedral

Bar del Pi: "Relaxing coffee"

written: 09 January 2001
After a hard's day at visiting the city, who does not like to relax a little. There is a really wonderful coffee place/tapas bar called Bar del Pi, on the Plaça near the Sta-Maria del Pi Cathedral. A friend of mine and myself sat down outside to relax and have a coffee. The atmosphere around the bar is really wonderful, especially when the sun goes down, and into the night. Street musicians come to entertain, and just to see the illuminated cathedral, its worth going there.

Pros: Really cool location and ambiance
Cons: Service can be a bit slow!
Rating: 4/4
Details: Near Sta-Maria del Pi (Pla St Josep Oriol)

La Musiqueta: "Try Heavy metal's blood!"

written: 08 January 2001
When i was 17-19 i used to go with my friends to La Musiqueta, a place to talk, drink and sing until the wee hours... This weekend someone suggested going there again after so many years and drink, as then, some "Sangre de heavy"-"Literally, "blood of a heavy metal person" (Hey,it's very sweet actually-beer with currant. The speciality of the bar). Now that i'm 26, i was a bit reluctant bc i expected my friends and i to be the older people there. I was wrong. It was actually plenty of nostalgics of "sangre de heavy" like us!

Pros: Perfect to drink, sing and have fun with friends
Rating: 3/4
Details: C/Avinyó (near ramblas and Colon, in the Gothic quarter)

Pub Mediterráneo: "Wanna have fun?"

written: 13 December 2000
To get to know the most typical Spanish songs of the last 3 decades, go to Mediterráneo. Singers get on stage and sing the hits of some years ago. But the most cool thing about this place are the singers. 'Cos they don't only sing, they're also somehow showmen, and really funny ones. The language might be a barrier if you don't speak Spanish, but last time I was there with an american, a canadian, an italian and a swiss, we had tons of fun. So I guess the language is not a problem really if you go with the right people. The american guy, Johnny boy, was the star that night! If you go there just relax and have fun!

Pros: Funny, great
Cons: Packed, little room and drinks not cheap
Rating: 4/4
Details: C/ Balmes 129 between Rosselló and Provença. Metro Diagonal or FGC Provença.

La Confiteria: "The cutest bar"

written: 21 November 2000
This bar is in Poble Sec, and is one of the coziest and cutest bars I've ever seen. Not everybody might like it, obviously, but I just love it. The decoration looks as if it was a bar from the beginning of the century. It's one of those places that just transports you in history. The music selection is great, usually jazz. An amazing place.

Pros: Beautiful and special.
Cons: none
Rating: 4/4

La Paloma: "Ball room dancing and techno"

written: 13 November 2000
Weird place la Paloma. It's a ball room, a very well known one in Barcelona, where all of our grandparents have gone dancing at least once. Well, it seems that now it's our turn. On thursday and friday nights, after the show of a ball dancing band, the modern music starts. So, around 3am tons of different kinds of people meet in La Paloma. It's very interesting. To get in they charge you 800 Ptas and the drinks are not that cheap. But the place is huge and somehow beautiful and kitch at the same time... Really cool.

Pros: Different, big
Cons: Expensive
Rating: 4/4

Abaixadors, 10: "A restaurant and a cool club"

written: 13 November 2000
Right now this is one of the coolest clubs to be in Barcelona. They hold really good DJ sessions with different kinds of music and also concerts. The variety is great. And this place is also a restaurant, but I've only gone there as a dance club. So, what you can get here are: exhibitions, concerts, DJ sessions, shows, etc... as I said, amazing variety, and the quality is always really good. The place is also pretty big.

Pros: Great variety.
Cons: It's not easy to find a sit.
Rating: 4/4
Details: Abaixadors, 10, very close to Santa Maria del Mar. 93 268 10 19
