Weekend nightlife in Caceres: "La Marcha en Caceres - Nightlife"

written: 07 August 2001
Weekends during the school year the nightlife in Caceres is unlike any other. As a university student you will most likely partake in the famous Spanish "botellon" which consists of hundreds or thousands of people with ages ranging from 16 to 40 hanging out in the Plaza Mayor or scattered thoughout the Parte Antigua drinking whiskey and coke and socializing. If you're more the coffee type, try Calle Pizaro earlier in the evening, or during the week. Around 2 or 3 in the morning people make their way to their favorite bars surrounding the plaza. There is something for everyone with approximately 20 bars to choose from in the immediate area. After a few hours you may decide to go home or walk across town about 10 minutes to the madrila, another grouping of more discotech-like bars with NO cover charge. Dance away until 9 am if you like.

Pros: cheap, good socializing
Cons: crowds, parking
Rating: 3/4
Details: The Plaza Mayor is adjacent to the Parte Antigua toward the north end of the city. It is accesible by car, but I recommend arriving by foot, as driving in the narrow streets can prove a scary experience for the visitor.
