A walk thro' Bern: "A December Sunday"
written:
12 January 2003
I took a break from study life in Milan and headed for Switzerland along with my Irish friend and two girls, one from Finland and the other from Arizona in the states.
We took a train from Interlaken. It took 50mins. The temperature was below zero.
The city is so clean. I think it won awards.
No shops were opened but there were markets every where.
We walked thro' the old town. Check out the protestant church. Buy some pumkin soup in the market next to the reformation church and relax in the park nearby.
You can climb to the top for 3francs. The view down on the city is amazing, with the Alps in the backdrop.
The river's course goes around the city and there are numerous bridges. It is really a beautiful place.
However the capital has only 150,000 inhabitants and It is quite small.
I would recommend going there but you could visit it in one day.
Train tickets are very expensive in Switzerland so I suggest you buy a eurorail ticket.
Check my review on Interlaken.
Pros: clean, beautiful scenery and multi lingual people,
Cons: cost
Rating: just a tip

The swiss alpine museum is very interesting. It's in Bern and not far away from the centre. You can learn about how the alps were formed and what the problem is with the winter tourism and so on.
There are great pictures, models and a lovely film about the swiss mountains.
Don't miss it! Especially when you're a mountaineer!
Have a lot of fun in Berne and see you!
p.s.: the english website is under construction but hold on!
Pros: Very informative and interesting.
Cons: Not much visitors even if it's near the city.
