Trinidad Carnival: "The Ultimate Party"

written: 30 May 2001
A few years ago I had the pleasure of experiencing Carnival in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Fetes (parties) start days prior to the actual carnival and last all day and night. J'Ouvert actually kicks off the official Carnival and starting around 3am different groups gather behind flat bed trucks carrying massive speakers and everyone dances in the streets. There is a tradition that everyone gets covered in mud. The festivities continue day and night with steel band and costume competitions. And of course, the wining... dancing you will never forget, just remember to watch your back! Forget about Rio for Carnival and check out Trinidad and Tobago!

Pros: party, party, party
Cons: watch out for the mud fights
Rating: 4/4
Details: Capital of Trinidad and Tobago, Caribbean
