"Metro Rail"

Nobody messes with the Metro. You got that?
This seems to be the feeling of Washingtonians about their local Metropolitan rail system. No food, drink, smoking, music, performance art, begging, bothering, spitting, or rowdiness is allowed in the stations or cars, and it shows. The rail system seems to look like it should be in Denmark rather than the US. Stations are clean and orderly, and the carpeted cars are relatively free from grime and odors. Plain clothes and uniformed police officers insure orderly conduct, and fines are handed out in a zero-tolerance policy.
As far as a transit system is concerned, it's good. It has enough lines to get you somewhat close to where you're going, although in Virginia and Maryland stations are far enough from anything to require a healthy walk to most final destinations. Still, Metro makes life without a car in DC palatable, and even enjoyable. Don't stop looking at car advertisements, though. There's a lot to this area that is not covered by the trains.
Pros: Clean, fast, safe, and comfortable
Cons: Covers a limited area, occasionally late
