HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? All students are requested to live on campus. As a big advantage you get to know people easier.
Personal comments:
Compared to the Thai standard, the on campus accomodation has been alright. Of course, they are not comparable at all to European standards. The standard accomodation is a small room with shared toilet and shower. But there is also the possibility to get an appartment in the student village with two other students, where rooms are bigger. Moreover, there is kind of a living-room and a gas stove for cooking. As to cleanliness, the charwomen come twice a week. Nevertheless, big cockroaches, spiders and ants are a common thing. Anyway, after a while you get used to it. The water is always cold, but you can get along with it for some time. Finally, there is no air-condition, just fans and it takes some time to get used to the high humidity. As there are no window grates, it can be quite noisy from time to time. All in all, the accomodation was alright after getting used to different standards. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by Anne, ESCP Europe, Paris, France
Business Studies, University Agreement
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities, Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
On the campus, there is only the SU café, but there are plenty of bars and nice places near Thamassat university (a good opportnuty to meet more Thai from different backgrounds). For night clubs, the best is to share taxis to Bangkok. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I was satisfied with courses and teachers.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
The library is too small. Often have to go to other university libraries in downtown bkk, it takes about an hour or more to go to e.g. Chulalongkorn library, so can be quite time consuming. Also, the internet connection in the student dorms is very bad. Super slow. I think this a bad and strange thing for an institute that prides itself of being a leading technology institute; the internet speed in the student dorms is like you used a 14k modem.... Very annoying, I tell you. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: At ease in most situations How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
The international students could choose a Thai language course where we acquired an everyday knowledge. This was actually pretty helpful in certain situations, as lots of Thais just speak a little English. And with our knowledge at the end, we managed to get along pretty well. That's especially important at the market, as bargaining is much easier in the local language. At university, everyone speaks a rather good English, although some dialects are hard to understand. I had quite a hard time to understand the Indian people. But after a while you'll get used to it. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

Business Studies, University Agreement
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
It was not legal for me to work Personal spending habits:
As to food, it is usually a lot cheaper in Thailand. Even good restaurants in Bangkok are less costly than at home. Telephone calls within the campus are free of charge, therefore you don't spend much money on it. Accomodation is less than in Germany, too. For nightlife I did spend the same as at home cause you usually go out several times a week. Moreover, in some clubs, foreigners have to pay higher entrance fees. Travel expenses are less in Thailand, but sometimes the way of travelling is not really comfortable. Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Even new text books are really cheap in Thailand. So it makes sense to buy new books. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
It is not so easy to make friends with Asian people on the campus. It requires time and a lot of perseverance. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Go if you want to travel and have fun but don't expect too much of the course, the level is not very high. Though, it is well known in Asia, so it can help you to find a job in the area. FINAL COMMENTS
- Some course require more work than others: ask former student beore chosing. - The travel agencies on Kao san are the cheapest you can find but the busses are sometimes very rusty and smelly. - Best area for shopping is chattuchak market on the week-end. - Do not hesitate to ask other foreigners and locals if you need help or advice.
