Student life
Describe host city:
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Personal social experience
Personal comments
Food choices on campus are few and the food is surprisingly low quality. Skin, fat and bones are the staples served at AIT.... And there are no other places to go (except Thammasat) as the AIT is really in the middle of nowhere.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Wouldn't go back
Why?
Housing is one of the worst things about AIT. It is very noisy campus. There is some sort of repair shop in teh basement of one of the student dorms (where many students are staying). Almost every morning there were noise from hammering, drilling, cutting metal, moving furniture, refrigerators etc.... Totally unacceptable level of noise almost daily. Also, the garbage dump is right in the middle of the student village. The stench from it does not make it a pleasant living experience if you are staying near it, and many students do as it is right amongst the student dorms... Also totally unacceptable.
And the sportsfacilities are just next to the student dorms too, consequently there is a lot of noise from ppl playing tennis, basketball and badminton from about 5pm til past midnight EVERY DAY. The living environment at the AIT makes the AIT not a good place to study. For this reason alone I would recommend people not to study at AIT.

Overall
I wish I had known...
If I had known how poor the living conditions were (housing, noise on campus) I would not have come to AIT.

In my opinion:
Stay home.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Because of the very low quality of accomodation and the incredible and unacceptable almost constant levels of noise(!) on campus from constant maintenance work(!?), hammering, drilling... and noise from sports facilities right outside the dorms, and of course the garbage dump in the middle of student village, I DO NOT recommend anyone to live and study at AIT. There are many other, much nicer and better places to live and study.

During my experience abroad, I ...
(1) Never – (4) A lot
Became familiar with another culture
Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
The AIT is not a nice place to live. If you have to, make sure you stay in the J or K dorms, they have aircon and are not quite as noisy as the other dorms, or in a part of the student village that is FAR from the garbage dump!

Living costs at AIT are low. You can also buy food at nearby Talad Thai market and cook yourself.
