HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? The level of authonomy and independance is favorable in an own appartment, shared or not, it is my choice...
Personal comments:
During my fist semester in France I lived at a student house tipe of flat for two sharing... but we were three. Further semesters were spent in a town center flat (45 Sq mts) living with my girlfriend. Back in the UK I was living in rented houses in Portsmouth, usually 4 or 5 bedroom houses sharing with other students, usually EBP too. During my placements I chose the same type of accomodation. STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
There are the "Quais" (docks) on the left margin of the river La Garonne which cuts Bordeaux in two, there you can find asubstancial concentration of nightclubs and bars, the town center is also on this side of the river. I recommend the traditional "Quartiers" like St Pierre, St Michel or Place de la Victoire. Also the Place de Gambetta area specially for good Kebab shops, which abund in bordeaux anyway... Favorite cafe is Cafe des Arts, nice terrace, not too crouded and with live music sometimes (Jazz, chanson, african), there are lots of very nice bars in the St Pierre area, also very much like the historical center of Bordeaux, the town center is just enormous, plenty to do, lots of pedrestian areas, nice shops and a very captivating wine culture... ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
There is a very strong feeling in France that students from an"School of Commerce" (ESC) come out better prepared than students from state universities... Some companies (French) actually prefer these students... I definately recommend EBP, the possibilities are increased in an international career prospect, also it is great to interact with so many international students (EBP includes 5 universities respectively in UK, FR, D, NL, SP, still, there are about 25 different nationalities involved. If you are french and you can afford it, take a school of commerce.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
No, just go with the flow, there is always something happening and the system is competent enough. the school is financialy well equiped so there is a feeling of material support around you, some teachers are actually working on side ventures, companies, R&D, politics... Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
Given that I am neither English nor French, I was speaking and studing in a "foreign" language al the time. I am more at ease with English, but my French is still on a bilingual level. In France I had to tune in to a "french thinking" mode, which lasted for the first 2 or 3 weeks. I did not have a language barrier and at times, people in my placement would actually ask me if I was from Quebeque of some funny french speaking place, because of my accent, not too strong, but it's there... The school has the habit of dealing with students whos french is not the first language so there was no problem there. The spirit of comunity in EBP would fill in the gaps of vocabulary here and there, ie, if I don't know what a word means, the person next to me will. Bilingual diccionaries were allowed in Exams. Overall, not a problem, rather a challenge. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Very small erasmus grant Part time job, placements Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Well, the cost of life in the UK is much higher than in France, however there are much more opportunities to have apart time job in the UK than in France, which balances things up a bit. Travel, Overall, Housing: was the same price as at home. Food, Nightlife, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Accomodation agencies will take a large fee, the French have not yet abandoned the bureaucracy structure in their administration, they are mad about "dossiers" (files) and each dossiers has apparently a cost attached to it. The social security coverage for international students is a joke, you may aswell take a course on bureacracy to get by and get your health pay for (70%) by the French Authorities. OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
That it was going to finish so soon, 4 years fly by you just like that and then, WHAM, here's your double diploma, thanks for chosing us, good luck. It was hard to let go of people that you are likely not to see again, but life goes on... now with an amazing and unique experience behind me! In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
The reputation of the ESC preceeds it, its worth it and it will give a very sweet fruit at the end of your education, there is the possibility of engaging onMasters degrees with specialisation on Finance or Marketing, the two placements scheem is just a great advantage. FINAL COMMENTS
