HOUSING

Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Best contact to other international students; short ways to all facilities
Personal comments:
Accomodation was generally satisfying, even though rooms were quite small. Kitchen facilities were excellent, flats were clean. It was fun living together with students from England and Dubai. However according to German standards flats were too expensive.

STUDENT LIFE

Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Sokrates
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
From my point of view, Uxbridge, a town you can reach with a bus from the campus, offers a wide variety of pubs, shops, sport facilities and a cinema. I go there at least twice every week and I enjoy it very much.

Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
Concerning Personnel Management one has to say that the university does not have a lot of courses to offer, but you can link it with one or two languages.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course

It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course

Essays and/or projects throughout the course

Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
In the beginning I spent a lot of time just with other international students and their English was of course also not really good, but when I realised it, I started to spend time also with English native speakers and it was great fun!

Main source of funding:

Other sources of funding:

An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience
Personal spending habits:
England is compared to Austria by far more expensive, but that is ok - you just have to consider carefully what to buy. I used Ryanair, a low cost airline, to fly to Scotland and Ireland and also back home.
Food, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Travel: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
I could have saved a lot of money if I knew from the beginning that in Uxbridge, a town near the campus, there are a lot of cheap shops for all the things you need for the daily life.

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture

Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
It would have been great to know in advance what goods you can buy here easily and what goods you should rather bring from home, as they are not available or much more expensive here.
In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
It is really a great experience. However, if you consider studying here, it would be much easier for you to travel around if you can bring your car with you.

FINAL COMMENTS

Some people made the mistake that they thought in the beginning, they will study hard and then travel around. However, as your study progresses you will find it more difficult to have time enough for studying and travelling, so start to travel around as soon as possible!
