HOUSING
by Diana, Universitatea din Bucuresti, Bucharest, Romania
Public Administration, Soros Foundation Scholarship
Personal assessment
Type of housing: shared with 2 flatmates
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because living in the city center is much more appropriate for a foreign student who wants to get in touch with a new culture, than live in campus, out of the city.
Personal comments:
I know from some other colleagues that it offers great assistance for finding accommodation. However, I preferred to find a flat in my own in advance, rather than wait until the beginning of the academic year for finding a place to stay. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
I do not generally have very favourite night spots, as do not go out to pubs often. The reason is a very heavy workload at the university. Yet, I would suggest others go to Godor club, Szimpla pub, there are also very good cafes and restaurants on ships on the Danube embankment. I like walking along the embankment at night. It is very beautiful, particularly the old Buda side of the city. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
Learning Hungarian was a challenge to me especially because I was surrounded by international students rather than Hungarians which made it hard to practice and develop my Hungarian. However, that international environment helped to develop my English. My language of instruction in Turkey was English too, but in Hungary, speaking all the time English with my friends, I guess I improved my speaking skills. The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
A private grant Other sources of funding:
None Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
Because Budapest is a much more expensive than any city in Romania. But then the stipend I got from CEU was much more than any salary in Romania. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
No financial suprises. A cost-saving tip however would be: don't live in the dorm (on campus). It's much cheaper to rent a flat in the city and you are your own boss. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
always apply for full grant! There's a fair chance you get it at CEU. I have been to modest and asked for 80% reduction of tuition fee only. Sure I could have gotten more. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
good courses, highly international, most students from Eastern Europe/former Soviet Union. Budapest great city to live, very dynamic, the whole region is changing rapidly. Just the place to be these days. FINAL COMMENTS
Learn a Slavic language. Makes it much easier to get around in Central/Eastern Europe than Hungarian! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
