HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I felt that it gave me good flexibility.
Personal comments:
Getting an apartment for a short period of time is tricky in the USA. Generally, the landlords demand at least a 12-month lease. However, if you play your cards right, you can get by this. But it is a gamble to try to get your own accomodations. I got lucky, and found something the first day. Unfortunately, this is the seller's market, and therefore, rents are high. But that's life. I thought it was pretty reasonable anyway. Your apartment is where you sleep - not where you spend all your time. You should be out meeting people anyway! STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Always make sure to tag along on the happy hours on Thursday evenings right after class! A great time to make good friends. After all, this is what an MBA-school is all about - networking. Doesn't hurt to have fun while you're at it! Stella's is a must for this Thursday night event. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I would definately go for anything taught by Professor Bhojraj. One of the most inspiring teacher I have ever had. Also, make sure you limit the number of classes with case studies. These take up a lot of your time, and you want to make sure to have some time aside for relaxing and having fun!
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Not really. The MBA-school is totally different from the SSE, and I think this is a valuable experience. However, it is important to keep in mind that this does affect the academic level of the school. At an MBA-school, what you are taught is how to apply theory in practice, and not as much the background of it. This is a big difference. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
I learned English and Swedish at the same time growing up, so I had no problems whatsoever in the interaction with other students or faculty. I speak it with an american accent, and it helps me to blend in with the locals, which I am very glad for. This makes it very easy to get accepted with everyone. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
It was not legal for me to work Personal spending habits:
Because of the exchange rate for the SEK to the USD, everything becomes very expensive in the States. This includes food and accomodation. The telephone services are generally very expensive in the States, which is something I was not totally prepared for. Food, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
With regards to telephone, I would try to bring a cell phone which works in the american system, and then get a cash calling card for it in the States. This saves you a lot of money, as the phone company charges you a great deal for installation and all phonecalls. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Nothing in particular. I managed to get in touch with a student from the school, and talked to him a few times before coming over, in order to have a better feel for what to expect. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I highly recommend it. I had a very good time there, and have many very good friends. It is truly the experience of a lifetime! FINAL COMMENTS
The only negative side with Cornell is its location, at least when arriving. Book very early, and try to get to Syracuse Airport. From there, you have one hour bus ride, which is not bad. You can also arrive directly to Ithaca, but I suspect this is a more expensive alternative. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
