HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I'd choose the same because I think that living in an apartment is more comfortable. The only problem is that if you find the accomodation through university once you keep it you can't go back, because you have to pay much money in advance. I liked the life in the university house but I would have probably moved out with other friends.
Personal comments:
Coventry university gives you two possibilities: the campus and the flats. The first one has the nice advantage of being very central, nextdoor to university, and it is also a nice place, I would say that the majority of the people living there I knew were very happy of the climate of "Priory Hall". But on the other hand the flat gives you other kinds of advantages: you have a kitchen, and more space. The flat were I lived was also in a nice area of the town, which is in my opinion a detail to consider. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
in Coventry there are very few places (or at least in 1998) noone would need my advice to find a nice cafe, bacuase there are so few that they are very visible. But it was always plenty of private parties organised by students in their apartments... a lot of this kind of parties. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
The teacher I admired more is called Daya Thussu, he was teaching journalism and media. I really liked also the course of media policy, with the teacher Jason Toynbee. And finally I would advice to choose the module of photography.

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
At university I had some problems at the beginning because it wasn't easy to understand everything of a lecture. But I improved a lot. I think that it helped the fact I had to write many essays. Outside university the best thing was talking my mother language the less I could. I also attended a course outside university and took the first certificate This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant a part time job I found there Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
I wasn't calling my home country. About the accomodation, in England I had a single room, while at home in order to save money I have always lived in a trple room, cheaper. Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The only surprise was that I didn't have to buy the books because I could find everything in the library. Coventry has very good libraries This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...

Everybody loved it, you will too!

Personal recommendation:
Coventry is not a beautiful place, actually I've choosen it because it was the only place in England linked with my university. It is an owful town, it doesn't have cultural life, not even a decent cinema, but I had an extraordinarily great experience. I learned that you can build a new life everywhere, even in the middle of nowhere... Probably it is only partly true: the fact is that a life as erasmus is something special, and you could experience it everywhere you go. it is a magical experience from a human/social point of view much more than from an academic point of view.
