HOUSING
by Herma, Ichthus Hogeschool, Rotterdam, Netherlands

Personal assessment
Type of housing: residence building with mainly students
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It was an building, recommended by the host university, that was why all students were there. It's very nice to have your friends close to you. It was not really in the center of Paris, but with the metro we could be there soon. So it was quit good living there.
Personal comments:
The costs were quit high, but thats typically Paris. The rooms were good. There was enough space and i even had my own kitchen and bathroom. I only found it a pitty that it was not really in the center. But besides that I really had a good stay there, also because all the other exchange students were in the same building. STUDENT LIFE
by Herma, Ichthus Hogeschool, Rotterdam, Netherlands
Business Studies, University Agreement
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Paris offers a wide variation of things to do at night. There are quit some nice places with a lot of bars, like Bastille or San Michel. Going to clubs is better during the week than in the weekend, certainly for foreign students. In the weekend it can be very expensive, but during the week there are quite some clubs like Duplex, Queen and Mix which organize erasmus parties, for which foreign students have free acces before a certain time. ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I couldn't chose my courses, because I do a double degree program. This means I have to do exactly the same courses as the (third years) french students.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
No, it's just the level of the school, which is very high, and therefore very hard. Even the french students strugled with some courses. But they are all do-able, it just takes a lot of effort, defenitely if your french is not great. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
Back in september when I arrived my french was worse then I thought. I always liked the language, and in Holland I normally got good grades. But now, ten months later, I do see improvement. With the french students I speak more french. I also notice during the courses that I understand the teacher much better. Only when I have to arrange administratative things, I find it still quit hard. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Government assistance An ERASMUS grant Subsidies from the French government Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
because I went out in Paris, which is extremely expensive. Before moving to Paris I lived with my parents so the groceries were not on my expenditure list, but I know it is more expensive here. The Metro is relatively cheap in comparison with Holland. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Do not look for a house in Paris but in the suburbs like Coubevoie, Nanterre and Puteaux. You are close to Paris but enjoy the cheaper rent prices and less noise. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Not really! Everything was well arranged by the host institution. Non EU students still need to pass through some time consumming administrative activities like applying for a residence permit etc. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I loved it! FINAL COMMENTS
I would recommend you to apply for the student residence offered by the University- it is very valuable for making contacts with the other international students and it's really close to the school. The metro and the RER are very fast and effective way to travel in Paris. If you like to travel a lot, apply for a carte jaune.
