HOUSING
by Santina, Università Degli Studi Di Roma - Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because I had all the facilities I needed, it was near the university and because I had the chance to meet lots of people: that helped me to improuve my language skills and gave the possibility to be an active part in the Erasmus student group.
Personal comments:
It was a very nice place called "Les Escoliers". I had all the facilities I needed (my own small apartment, with kitchen corner and bathroom). It was near the university (walking distance 10min). I had the chance to meet lots of people: that helped me to improuve my language skills and gave the possibility to be an active part in the Erasmus student group. STUDENT LIFE
by Elise, Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel, Brussels, Belgium
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Night spots are hard to find in Montpellier because they have to close at 01.00AM. On the other hand, you have bars in every street and they all have their own charm! Here are some names: Barbarossa, Cargo, Café Joseph, Macadam, The Australian, ... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Only do many courses if you are sure that they will be accepted at your home university.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Level of courses is so easy! Try to do some graduate stuff if possible: they are worth it!! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
At the beginning we had an intesnive french course for 2 month which was good to start with. All the courses I took were in french so I practiced a lot at school. With the other students i spoke english and german in the first semester, but then, when I got to know more french, spanish and italians, I nearly spoke only french. So the second semester I really improved a lot in french and fluently speak it now. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by Johan, Linköpings Universitet, Linkoping, Sweden
Financial Management, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
nightlife was more expensive, we have studentprices at bars and nightclubs at home, there weren't always studentprices at the bars in france so I spent more there. Concerning housing, I have an expensive flat in sweden and managed to find a roommate to share my rent in france so it ended up lower then at home. I spent more on travel in france as well because I hade friends doing their erasmus at other french cities so I went to visit them, in sweden I have my friends at my university so I hardly ever travel. Travel, Nightlife: was more expensive than at home. Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
electricity is expensive! It is easy to get housing aid from the french government, apply at www.caf.fr(you have to have a place to live before you can apply!) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
That France is significantly more expensive than Austria regarding housing. Very difficult to find a room near city center in acceptable prices. In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Take not all courses if you don't have to. They are interesting and quite difficult. So if you want to profit as a non french you have to concentrate on the courses that are really interesting for you, if not you won't have time to profit from the beach, the city and the nightlife (which is really great) in Montpellier. FINAL COMMENTS
Make up a french bank account - without it you won't get the CAF (french gives you an aid for your room - around 140€). Don't forget to visit Barcelona. Only a three hours trip by bus - its a great city. Don't go alone in the outskirts of Montpellier after 8 in the evening - especially as a girl - could be unconfortable or even dangerous.
