Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House

Personal comments:
Its very close to the university but quite expensive and not very big. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Don`t miss the BIKINI (nice place to dance), Placa del Sol in Gracia, La Ovella Negra ( many students, many foreigners ), Danztoria ( in summer: uncomparable)and all the small bars in Barrio Gotico, Barrio Born, Eixample... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
ESMA is a small scale University that specializes in certain courses. Therefor the overall offer of courses is lower than my home university.

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
I went to Barcelona to improve my academic knowledge of the Spanish language, but also to obtain a better understanding of Catalunya's language Catalan. The opportunity ESMA gave me to take a Catalan Language course with them helped me a lot. Furthermor, a very large part of the students at ESMA is Latin American. Their Spanish differs from the Spanish spoken in Spain. Through my contact with these students I obtained a good knowledge of Latin American Spanish. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Other Other sources of funding:
Home University Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
The cost to install a telefone line ist incredibly high! Apartment rent was expensive, everyday life was almost the same as at home, nightlife somestimes a bit more expensive ( depends on the place you go to ) Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Food: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Check if you live in a part of BCN where they have other telefone providers than telefonica e.g. Meta ( could save ou a lot of money ), having an international student card can give you cheaper access to some sightseeing (e.g. Sagrada Familia) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Catalonian people can be quite nationalistic, never live with only international students, get some spaniards in there too. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Its small but cosy. The classes & teachers arent the best but theyre ok. Not too many international students but the spaniards are real friendly too. FINAL COMMENTS
Go to Spain, its a great country! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
