HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? it was great to live independently in an apartement, that's why I would do it again this way
Personal comments:
It was perfectly organised, but too expensive in comparison with the costs at home, but it was ok compared with the housing costs in France, nearly all the apartements I've seen were in best order as far as cleaniness and facilities are concerned.

Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.

Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
give more independance to the students, the french students are rather like pupils who are told by their teachers what to do.

Language difficulties
Social
KEY:
No problems.
I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
at university, everybody is friendly in general, even if you speak very bad the foreign language, they always try to help. on the other side, in social life, it's much more difficult to communicate especially with the older generation, as they only know french, and have difficulties to understand someone with an foreign accent.

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:

Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Government assistance
Other sources of funding:
Family
Personal savings
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
the overall living costs are higher in France. I went out much more often and made many voyages.
Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Food: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Don't use french bank accounts, the fees even for inner-france transactions or payments are enormous compared with Austria, where you nearly py nothing for regular bank activities.
