Personal assessment
Type of housing: student accomodation out of the town centre
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? The student accomodation where i stayed was fantastic although i felt it would have been more practical to live in the town centre (Altstadt)
Personal comments:
I met a group of people here and i was paying the most rent out of all of them, but i have absoltuelty no complaints with my accomodation. It was so clean and there was enough room, not huge but enough, there were 16 people on my floor and four people to each bathroom, which were kept immaculate. I also had internet connection in my room which was included in my rent. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Tuebingen may be an old University town, but the local discos are dominated either by highschoolers or by adults in their 30s and 40s. A train to nearby Reutlingen (16 minutes) is one's best bet for all night dancing. Walk through the town and uphill to get to Farberei, a large disco with several rooms featuring different musical styles (popular, drum & bass, the ubiquitous techno, or lounge). Make sure to dress appropriately - sneakers and jeans wont get you in. Stuttgart also offers great nightlife and is about 45 minutes away by train. If you don't have the time or money for an all night excursion, the local scene is dominated by small bars. There is also a pleasant biergarten on the banks of the Necker River (the Neckermueler). Fraternity parties (Verbindungs Party) are also popular. Monday night Karaoke at Tangente Night is usually packed, please don't ask me why! My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Though Tufts University nominally grants credit for any course offered through the Karls Eberhard University (provided the student meets certain expecations - i.e. attends class, participates, and either writes a term paper or undergoes oral examination), one can run into problems if taking a class with a German Professor unfamiliar with the Tufts program. Try and take classes recommended by the Director of Tufts in Tuebingen.

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
Before the semester started, I had two months of intense German courses. My grammar was already very good, but I improved it and my vocabulary was greatly approved. I also had a television for the last three months, which helped a lot with vocabulary and slang. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I knew the precodures how to obtain the bank account and internet - that would have made life much easier in the beginning. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
It is great university for those who care more about academic achievements rather than social engagement. This is tipical university town, so there is not so much to do unless you are prepared to travel to Stuttgart (around 40km). But the atmosphere for studying is great. FINAL COMMENTS
The most important thing is to speak at least a little bit German. Although university staff is very friendly and speaks English, outside of the university only German is spoken. Although there is not much sightseeing in Tuebingen it is quite conveniently situated not far from other cities. Also it is not very far from Switzerland and many students go there for a weekend. If there is a chance it is better to rent a room/flat individually since dorms are quite noisy. In case there are no rooms in Tuebingen itself, other towns like nuertingen are worth to have a look. The train fares are quite expensive but comfortable and fast. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
