HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It´s nice to be independant, have your own space. I share the appartment with an Austrian student and we only speak german, this helps to improve my german a lot!
Personal comments:
They arranged an appartment for me, according of my wishes (appartment, price, own room, close to school,..) and I´m really satisfied about the service that cost 50€. If you don´t like their first choice, you can have 2 more chances so that way you can change if you don´t like the outcome; this wasn´t necessary for me! Really happy about the service! STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
For the international students at the Joanneum the place to gather before going out or just have a drink was the Irish Pub ´Flann O´Brien`, situated in the Paradeisgasse. But other fun places to go out where situated in the Elisabethstraße, close to the University, with Gecco and Kultus as most popular places. At the Joanneum and the university there were also lot´s of party´s in the buildings of the schools, also not to be missed! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I choice a Global Business Program that was really interesting for my field of study ´Marketing`. But I have also noticed that this doesn`t always have to be the case; I think it´s a challenge to study e.g. accountancy and follow this program. Make sure you have enough credits to satisfy your home university, that saves you a lot of trouble afterwards.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
If you come to a city and have the opportunity to bring a bike with you (or buy/rent a cheap one) I would really recommend that. So much easier, you don´t have to count on the public transport that is in most city´s just until midnight. Maybe the university can arrange such a service for their(international) students This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
Together with the international challenge learning languages was the main reason why I took off to Austria. I had have a lot of German grammatically but was to afraid to use it. Now I can speak it much better and I really like it to try and talk, a lot of people set you at ease and in that way I´m not afraid anymore to make mistakes. I really suggest to know at least the basic phrases of the spoken language when you choose a country; a lot of my collegue students had difficulties to just buy a something in a store....About the lessons in English: I had have English for a long time at home and didn´t have any difficulties to understand the instructors. Though, my spoken English is really improving and that is just a really good experience. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Government assistance Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
In the nightlife case, I just went out more...So in that case it´s normal. Concerning food, I wasn´t living by myself in Belgium so I really come concious of how much meat, fruit and vegetables cost. This was a good learning experience too! Coocking for myself was in the beginning difficult but after a while I coocked together with my roomie so that´s a lot easier than coocking for one person. Food, Nightlife: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Not really, I had informed myself with a girl from my home university who studied there last year, I knew what to expect. But extra financial support from my parents was what I needed! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Nothing, it is better when you experience things and learn by yourself instead of having someone else to tell you who might give you even sometimes a bad impression of something that you could even like in other situation In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
To encourage more students to practice and experience the local language and increase the possibilites that they offer for so FINAL COMMENTS
there are many good low-cost airlines (RYANAIR, SKYEUROPE,GERMANWINGS) and nice good train offers that you can take advantage of when you travel around Europe so you need to be intelligent enough to find them and book in advance cause they are not that evident or easy to find. Always ask the ones have been there before. They will know better and give you lots of good tips This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
