Personal comments:
As I have mentioned I have been studying in the Netherlands and the language I was using for my study was English. It is not a secret that in the Netherlands each person speaks fluently English and hardly a foriner starts speaking to them in bad Dutch they automatically start speaking English. In addition I was learning at that time German. German and Dutch have very many common words and in order not to mix the languages and Dutch habit to speak to foriners in English may be led to my poor knowledge of Dutch language.

Personal comments:
The professor in charge of teaching the local language (german) was not clear all the time, so it was hard to understand her, it was also a bit frustrating because she didn't create the correct environment to learn (she laughed at the students when they made a mistake, causing some students to drop the course)

You can meet here many people from France and from spanish-speaking countries ,so it is better when you speak these languages too,but when you are good at english,I think, that it is not a problem to communicate with other exchange students.

Personal comments:
I intended to exchange to Germany to learn German. German is somehow the same with Dutch. Therefore, I really had an advantage comparing to my friends who study German as the first time. The German grammar is very complicated and the structure is totally differrent with English. Nevertheless, it is very similar to Dutch grammar. I still need to learn new words although I am familiar with the grammar. Fortunately, I had a German friends and she really helps me in improving German. I may say, if I have a chance to live in Germany more, my German will be perfect like my English. Studying a foreign language really needs a practice. If we do not practice, we cannot improve it. At least, we should have a local friends and try to talk as much as possible ( although nobody understands you). For difficult language like German, we need to spend more time for it. A German friends in this case is really helpful.
