Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? The social life is very exciting and it is easier to meet people from the country.
Personal comments:
I was pretty happy about my housing, as I was living with 4 germans and it has helped me so much to improve my german skills.

It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German
How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
when I came to germany, I had basic knowledge due a 3 month placement I have done in Germany before. I unfortunately never studied german, therefore my written skills are not as good as my oral skills. The only problem occuring is when (especially elderly) people start speaking extreem bavarian, but happens maybe once per month, and after you explain your not from the area, they adjust and there are no further problems.

If you use a cell phone, get a local one. Go to student residence parties, where the drinks are cheaper.
