HEC has a great name in France and in certain companies in the UK. If you are looking to pay for a brand, it is a logical choice. However please do not expect top quality services espeically adminitration, school facilties, hosuign accomodations etc. Read Review

HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.

Cleanliness

Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Personal comments:
There are so many disappointing things about this housing: 1) Lack of security: There was a girl that was attacked in her room by someone with a weapon. There is no means of security except for the door to your room. This is VERY disturbing because the bathrooms are in the hallway so you must exit your room in the middle of the night 2) Communal showers: must share a shower with the next room 3) communal bathrooms: 2 toilets for one HALLWAY meaning 12 people! Disgusting! 4) Residence Office: Responsiveness = Zero! except for when it comes to collecting money! 5) Cap on electrity: This is like living in the 80's. There is a cap on electricity in each room that you can not even boil water for tea nor use your hairdryer. Several complaints were made but as mentioned above, responsiveness is more than disappointing but appalling

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience

KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Do not let the name HEC Paris fool you. This is in a town called Jouy en Josas if you look carefully on the map. This is Zone 3 where there is no metro but only a train will take you into paris after changing trains. The latest you can stay out in Paris is 10PM if you want to come back to campus. Also the campus is on a hill so it takes 20 minutes walking uphill if you want to get back from the train station. There is student night life on campus called POW (party of the week) with open bar. However there was recently an incident where a student was beaten so bad by the security gaurds that he had to get several stitches on his jaw.

Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
Very hard to learn the language because there is a lack of integration between the French and International students. International students feel very left out and the school does not seek to remedy this situation

I wish I had known...
how the school is not interested in accomodating international students. They work very hard to recruit them (by the way, in the year of 2007, only after we had rejected alternative schools and selected HEC, the shcool informed the students that the tuition would be DOUBLED).
In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
The international students were great but the school really did nothign at all to make any kind of experience or feel welcome.
