HOUSING
by Dora, ISC - Budapest University of Economic Sciences, Budapest, Hungary
Business Studies, University Agreement
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because the school is totally outside of Paris, next to a really small village, so there isn't another choice if you don't want to drive 1 hour to the school each morning.
Personal comments:
- As the accomodition was on the campus, it never took me more than 5 minutes to arrive to the class. - I really missed a common area to meet other students, to watch television, etc... and also a kitchen! Or at least a fridge. - And I also missed a shop for foods or drinks on the campus - But a good thing: there was a cleaning lady to clean regularly every room! - The room was quite expensive for me (2250 FF/month), being a Hungarian, so as a result of long discussions with the residence and the financial service, I managed to share a room with an other friend. So it's possible, but be tough! In France, nothing is simple...

Personal comments:
- Every Thursday there is a big party organised by the Student Council (with free drinks, unlimited!!) - Every weekday's night there is the Zink, a pub on the campus open until midnight - The K-Fete is a coffee bar open every afternoon

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.

Personal comments:
Exhange students should have opportunities to suit their home universities academic background. HEC should be more flexible with exchange students.

Language difficulties
Social
KEY:
No problems.
I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Personal comments:
We had equally the possibility to take courses in French and English, and to practice both of them (wrinting essays, giving presentations, etc). I only regret that the text of all case studies were in English, so I couldn't improve my written French as much I wanted.

EXPENSES
by Andrea, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Vienna, Austria
Management Science, CEMS
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
Government assistance
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience
Personal spending habits:
- I travelled more than I would in a normal semester - I did more sight seeing - night life in Paris is more expensive in Vienna and since we needed a taxi to get back to campus (about 15 € per person per night) it was all in all more expensive
Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Food: was the same price as at home.
Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Through out the week it is easy to save money on food (mensa there is pretty cheap).

OVERALL
by Bernhard, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Vienna, Austria

Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
You should bring your own sheets, blankets and pillows with you (you will appreciate that when you see those provided by HEC) - or you buy one after arriving there
In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Expect hard work and evaluation biased by your level of French

FINAL COMMENTS

You should go there by car or at least know someone who owns one. The campus is really (!) far away from Paris and urban transportation systems are functioning, but you still have to go to the train station (which is anapprox. 20 min footwalk away)
