Personal spending habits
- I travelled more than I would in a normal semester - I did more sight seeing - night life in Paris is more expensive in Vienna and since we needed a taxi to get back to campus (about 15 € per person per night) it was all in all more expensive

The location makes it easy to travel. Buy second hand car if possible when you are there. Bring yopu own laptop, the computers available are just afew and not enough.

If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Because in my home university I have never lived on campus and is an excellent experience as you are allways in touch with the rest of students and you can learn a lot from them and aldo from yourself

As suggested in the field for classes - I mainly spoke French in class and while participating in sport activities. With most of my friends (since they where exchange students as well) I spoke English. But involvment in clubs, sports and parties helps to get to know french people as well.

I wish I had known...
I wish I would have known that rent was so high. also absence of kitchen in the dorm was an unpleasent surprise. And of course the time it takes to commute to Paris (from 40 min to 2 hours depending on strikes or construction works that happen way too often in France)

Do not have very high expectations! Learn some basic French to be able to get around. Apply for CAF the moment you arrive on campus (CAF is a student support for rent from French government, up to 200 euros per month, to apply go to the website www.caf.fr - there you would need your basic French by the way)
