don't travel by taxi, they r too much expensive! buy a tram/bus/metro pass it's cheaper and easier! If u arrive in the airport u have a train directly to Brussels center. Brussels is great, cosmopolitan, I love it! Read Review

HOUSING
by Alexandra, Universidade Fernando Pessoa, Porto, Portugal
Public Relations/Publicity/Advertising, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? more space but above all privacy!
Personal comments:
It was a different experience, but a very good one! I live 2m from the classrooms! Excellent!!! Nice internationals girls, only the neighbourd is alittle bit strange, but oK! It's in the center of Brussels near everything. Nice location. In the end it was great. Every time I go to Brussels I stay there!

STUDENT LIFE
by Lucia, Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e Empresa, Lisbon, Portugal
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
The center (downtown) is probably the smartest and cheapest decision. There are lots of bars there (free entrance). Celtica (an irish pub) is probably the most popular (for foreigners) and the most international. Mapa-mundi is probably the best one if you just want to sit in a nice bar and chat with your friends. For real discos, you can find some nice ones at Madou.

Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Basic phrases
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
my language experience in the begining was little bit hard, because I tried to talk, sometimes in english (I'm fluent) but they don't speak english a lot! It was a big problem, because I didn't have the a lot of basis in french. But afterwards we (erasmus students) start to have french classes in the night and I start to speak a little more french and in the end i was almost fluent! Now I am! Great...

EXPENSES
by Lucia, Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e Empresa, Lisbon, Portugal

The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
housing is expensive compared to Portugal in general (not compared to Lisbon). When buying a phone card you should be attentive, because it is possible to pay just a little (or a lot...)
Food, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Overall: was the same price as at home.
Travel, Nightlife, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
to phone home don't call from your belgian mobile. there are lots of phone houses (usually owned by turkish people) where you can phone to other countries for about 0,10€ (Europe).

Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
ICHEC is a small business school. Do not expect a University or a big party. People pay a lot of money to study there, most of them are really seroius and learn quite a lot.

FINAL COMMENTS

Belgium is a nice country were you can travel a lot. I really enjoyed the trips to the sea, to Gent, Antwerpen and Bruges. After 2 days of sightseeing you know Bruxelles by heart, there are not so many things to see, Tip: museum of fine art and Museum od music instrumets
