Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice

Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Spanish people are very open-minded and kind. The best way to integrate the city is to go out with a little group of friends and don't be afraid to talk to people sat next to you wherever the place you are.

Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish
How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
Since our classes were held outside the ICADE buildings, we had to find language social interaction elsewhere - in the daily life and in the nightlife. For this Madrid is perfect! Very open-minded and social people, that love to talk to you, as long as you take the initiative to talk in Spanish with them first.

Money from home
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
Personal savings
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
I lived at my parent's before comming in Spain so I never had to spend money on accomodation, travel or food. But in general and in most fields, prices are lower in Spain.
Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The most surprising thing in Madrid is that you usally have to pay your rent cash.

Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
moreover the specific spanish culture, I could extend my international experience to latinoamerica.
In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
More than an international experience with students who had travelled a lot, it has been more an experience in a foreign country what forced me to adapt me completly to the local culture more than sharing internatinal experiences that were not in that university in the graduate programs.

FINAL COMMENTS

Foreign people in Spain are not so welcome than we can imagine before going, we are used to thinking about Spain in a holiday ambiance, but people is very different.
