HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I shared the apartment with a French student and two Spanish ones. It helped me improve my spoken Spanish and I was able to see how Spanish people live.

Personal comments:
Don't miss Erasmus parties organized each thusrday nights in "el Palacio de Gaviria"! The place itself is worth seeing! Bet you've never partied in such a "classy" place! For guanranteed fun, head for la Plaza Santa Ana, close to la Puerta del SOl! There are plenty of bars with different atmospheres! it's always crowded on week end!!!!! Also try el Kapital, an amazing seven-grouded disco!!!! Craving for pastries???? One place : la Mallorquina en la Puerta del Sol , order "un chocolate y una napolitana"!!!! For me , the best breakfast ever!!!!

Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish
How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
Before spending a semester in Madrid, I had studied Spanish for nine years at school and had spend some time trvelling trough Spain! Indeed I didn't have major problems to understand or speak the language! Yet, I didn't speak as fluently as I wished to! Spending those 6 months in the country allowed me acquire a relly high level of spoken and written spanish. I'm at ease in every situation now....

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.

Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
Government assistance
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:

Personal spending habits:
The thing is the prices of food (restaurant or home made)are lower in Spain than in France. It is the same for clothes, alcohol in bars, entries of discos, museums...That's why I used to do more things in Spain than in France so it compensates! the only big expense is the accommodation 'cause Madrid is a capital city.
Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Food: was less expensive than at home.
