HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Undecided
Why? There are pluses and minuses to the housing options. Dorms are nice cause they are near campus and with the majority of students. Unfortunately they are a fair distance away from downtown Rouen, which can be a real pain at night, and it inconvenient for discovering the city. An apartment with French students is the best, but there is no help in finding a good one. There are student studios downtown, but they are ridiculously expensive, and you will almost certainly not make friends in them. Most of the French students are very introverted in their housing.
Personal comments:
I had an apartment downtown which was really nice and convenient. Unfortunately my roommate was a douche. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Lots of nightlife and travel opportunities. BUT if you use $, be prepared to blow through a huge amount of money cause the exchange rate is terrible. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Don't take international finance. The teacher doesn't know what she's doing, and you won't learn a thing in the class. I didn't. The french for biz class was somewhat interesting, but not useful in regards to actual things you'd need to know to work in france. It's more of a french class that presents the material in the form of business situations.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
This school uses the most ridiculous testing methods I've ever experienced. Your final grade basically is the combination of attendance and a final paper/exam. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
Most of my classes were in English because I was concerned about my pressure for grades, but taking the classes in english basically made everything extremely easy. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
None Work opportunities:
It was not legal for me to work Personal spending habits:
I was basically raped by the exchange rate. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Careful, at first you will be tempted to eat out a lot. By the middle of your stay, everyone will be eating pasta in their dorms. think ahead and spend frugally at first. You'll be happy when everyone catches up to your mindset. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Not really. Just head on in with an open mind. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
The actual university is very good, but not so much the classes that are available to international students. If you want some really good classes, look elsewhere. FINAL COMMENTS
Rouen was a cool city to visit and live in for a while. I really learned a lot about Normandy; it's history and culture. Rouen was nice at first, because it was urban, yet had a keen sense of history and quaintness. Paris would have been too much to handle at first. However, I am more urbanely focused, and quickly mastered and tired of Rouen. If you are afraid of a huge city, Rouen is very comfortable and safe, but if you are from New York or a comparable large city, you'll probably be wishing you had chosen Paris.
