Why? For the first time in the country this is better to live with a family as it is able to give you some information regarding culture and support in critical moments. My housing was perfect as I was leaving in a family house but separatly with others foreigners. So it maintained my independence but I could ask for help sometimes. That was a good balance. If I go back I would choose to live in a apartment but with roomates.
Personal comments:
The conditions of payment are constraining as you have to pay cash on the first days or before arriving. This type of housing requiere a lot of forms and other documents. That is a bad to pass and then you are free. Caution there is a contract so you can't leave the housing program when you want to!

Why? II would choose a house again because it is the cheapest option of accomodation in Mexico and I prefer to live independently than with the family or at the school campus.
Personal comments:
The campus at school had extremely stickt rules that the european students are not used to and it was quite expensive. However, it had a lot of facilities and was safe because of the 24h security.

Why? For freedom's sake and to meet possible international roomies
Personal comments:
Housing in general is weel organized in TEC. I heard comments from negative to positive from friends who lived in host families. Campus accomodations can vary too, depending on whether you're lucky enough to get a room from the most modern building.

Why? My second semester there, I rented an apartment near the campus.
Personal comments:
They really treated me very well but the second semester I preferred to have more independence and to share the apartment with the people i had met the first semester. That´s why I changed my residence.

Why? Because you have your own space, and can live independently as I am used to for several years by now. Also, you can still invite any students and local friends so it does not mean you are not mingling in as much as one would think you would living in a host family. It all depends on your own personality and effort to integrate.
Personal comments:
I enjoyed living in my house a lot! I had 3 room mates in the first half year, and three new ones came in the second half year. Different people, different experiences, but a great time overall!!!

Why? Because I had more independence. In Mexico the student's residences are very good but there are many rules, like hours, visits, authorisation to go out, etc.
Personal comments:
At the university there are a department just dedicated to students housing. If you want you can stay at the residence and if not, they have many options for you (family, renting apartments, etc). Or you can just find a house by your self, like I've done.

Why? Although the family experience was indeed helpful in my language development, I think I'm at the point now where I could survive on my own without the aid of native inhabitants.
Personal comments:
I felt the accomodations were more than good. I learned a great deal about the culture and language of Mexico as well as how to adapt to the lifestyle there.

Why? The house I am living in now is pretty close to my host university, only 5 minutes on foot. And moreover, my 12 Mexican neighbours are really nice and helpful for my Spanish learning.
Personal comments:
The international office of my host university in Mexico is very helpful and very efficient as well for finding an accommdation for foreign students.

Why? I went to the Mazatlan campus and I worked for a magazine downtown so the Golden Zone house I rented was close to the bus for both school and work.
Personal comments:
The University was excellent except for the Internatonal advisor Thomas Fedewa. He was an American who always lied and is creapy.
