Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I lived there and it was quite perfect for me.
Personal comments:
I lived there almost two years, what I can say, the accomodation was without any problems. If there was anything broken in our apartnemt, serviceman repaired it almost always next day (if it was not urgent)

My level before: Basic phrases
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Personal comments:
I was surprised how well most of the Finns speak English (altough sometimes they deny it). I went to Finland to learn more Finnish and it was not easy because I often ended up talking in English.I had some difficulties understanding local people who speak dialects.

Personal recommendation:
The campus is really nice, the atmosphere is friendly even in the Administration building. You can always ask for help and I think this whole program taking care of the international students is very well- organized. They really take care of the individuals. I was very much satisfied with this.

FINAL COMMENTS

I highly recommend Joensuu University to everbody who are opened and want to get some nice experiences from Finland. Forget your prejudices concerning Finnish people. Lot of Finnish students are very friendly and opened. And you will make a lot of friends from all around the world, you can travel, have fun....I think it is worth studying abroad at another university even if you have some hard days -dark days:( I think many of us,exchange students returned home with a lot of nice memories.I had hard times here after my returning....I definitely missed a lot of things, friends, saunas, 'makkara', lakes, the landscape, snow! I am sure I will go back to Finland and I keep in touch with some people I met there.
