HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I would go in an apartment where local people live, because where I lived there were only foreigners as me, and we hardly spoke German. We used to talk in English, as many of them couldn't German. That disappointed me a lot. Second I would like to live in a real house, as the student dorm where I was, was quite similar to the one I live in in Italy, and I'd like to experience something different.
Personal comments:
The place where I lived, was awful. But I visited all the other student dormitory in Graz and except for mine and an other one pretty close, the others looked clean, nice and comfortable. It's just a question of old building and the bad aspect was that NO Austrian was living in those awful places, just Erasmus and Balcanian students... STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
I organized a lot by myself with people met up there. We often went to private parties and parties organized for Erasmus. A very cheap and good place where to eat, even if surely not that healthy, was the "Drei goldenen Kugeln". I remember a disco, but mainly a kind of disco pub, named the "Three Monkeys", and an other one... but I can't remember how's that called! :p! ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
move very quick and start thinking of them as soon as possible, from your home country possibly. Then, attendance is very important for some courses and teachers give a strong attention to your presence and to your interaction during the course. Be active!
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Just.. if you have some essays or kind of "homeworks", do them soon after your lessons and live your Erasmus student life after it. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
well, as I've already said, I didn't have many occasions to speak the local language, as many erasmus spoke just English and as Austrians weren't very easy-going with us... something which helped me a lot was TV, movies and attending lessons. EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
food, generally costs more and then as a foreigner I didn't know where to go to spend less. Housing, in Modena I did not pay for housing, as I got a local grant which used to give me money and house for free. Nightlife was cheaper as you almost do not have to pay for entering disco-pubs, beer is incredibly good and CHEAP and in general we managed on our own for nightlife... Food, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
no, nothing particular This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
that the place where I lived was that bad as it really was. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
take it easy, study what you need, but don't lose your opportunities to have fun, and don't be shy. Try to talk with everybody. Austrians're not that cold as they seem... but you have to move first! FINAL COMMENTS
If you want to visit Austria, and I warmly recommend it, try to of these ways: bring your car or rent one there and go with people met there, weather Austrians or Erasmus just as you. OR buy the Vorteilscard, which gives you 50% discounts on trains in Austria and abroad. It shouldn't cost more than 20 euros and it's a great thing! HAVE FUN!
