LSE

London School of Economics and Political Science, Houghton Street, WC2A 2AE London, United Kingdom
4.01 / 5 based on 312 reviews.
Description:
The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is unique in the United Kingdom in its concentration on teaching and research across the full range of the social, political and economic sciences. Founded in 1895 by Beatrice and Sidney Webb, the LSE is one of the largest colleges within the University of London and has an outstanding reputation for academic excellence nationally and internationally.
But this is an unusual UK university. Few university institutions in the world are as international. The study of social, economic and political problems covers not only the United Kingdom and other countries within the European Union, but also countries of every continent.

Why? It is the most cost-effective option and it can be much more fun than renting
Personal comments:
For my fisrt year I stayed in Passfield Hall, a 'budget' residence with reasonable prices (for London standards!) and lots of character. It was small, very friendly and close to the university -although American students tended to complain that it was falling to pieces :-) Later on I was forced to move to private accommodation, which is the British version of hell

Personal comments:
At LSE, it is a very complicated topic, because there is not enough place for all the students to live in school's residences. So the priority is definitely not for exchange students who only come for 3 months. But I since I had the chance to find a place with good friends of my home university, I was an overall good experience.

Why? It depends if you already know someone there (which was my case) or not.
Personal comments:
If you don't know anyone in London, it's definitely best if you go to Holborn, near to campus and walking distance from EVERYWHERE you'll want to go! -also, all the summerschool students will be there and meeting them makes your first days there much easier-

Why? Friendly and helpful atmosphere at the hall of residence.
Personal comments:
London is a very expensive place to live. Halls are affordable and also make it easier to get to know other students, etc. My hall of residence is also very central and there is a good mix of students from different countries.

Graduate housing at LSE is organised in apartments of six or four rooms with an independent kitchen and bathrooms. It's great because it allows you privacy and access to kitchen facilities at your convenience.

Personal comments:
The accomodations facilities are good but there are fees for everything you can imagine, be carefull not to pay late or you wil get a 4 pounds a day fine.

Personal comments:
The School Hall is nothing you would kill for really, but is extremely well located (close to Oxford Street and Regents Park). It's smallish but rather clean and homy.

Why? I would choose to live in private accommodation merely because I like the independence that comes with living independently. I would rather choose an apartment and locale based upon my own personal preferences than deal with whatever I'm given by the LSE.
Personal comments:
You really cannot ask for more. You will not be living in a palace, but LSE accommodation is very good compared to most university standards. Bankside and High Holborn are especially laudable given that both are within walking distance of the school, and are widely regarded as the best vis-a-vis facilities, cleanliness, proximity to major amenities, and room sizes. LSE accommodation is also quite inexpensive. You will likely pay 100 pounds or more per week, but this is peanuts in comparison to what you would have to pay to live independently in London. Accommodation in London is extremely expensive, and the LSE does a great job in subsidizing student housing.

If returning, I would choose: Convent
Why? Food was included and home-cooked for the small community. It was an all-girls accomodation, so it was relaxing while going to the bathroom. It was a convent, so it was pretty quiet, ideal for studying. Location was outstanding, very close to Hyde Park, yet affordable.
Personal comments:
I had a great experience, but I found my accomodation by myself, so this section is not really applicable to me.
