HOUSING
by Catherine Louise, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It give you the opportunity to be independent and to experience living separate from the University. Also it gives you the opportunity to live with native (italian) people and therefore helps with your integration into the culture and language improvement.
Personal comments:
The flat that i lived in was private accomodation, therefore had nothing to do with the university. However, it was close to campus, in a great area, i couldn't have asked for more on that front. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by NADIA, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom
Financial Management, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Campo dei Fiori offers a fabulous social scene, particularly "la vineria" or "Heartbreak"- v.popular with foreign students. Trastevere/Testaccio have v.good restaurants and are the main nightclub areas due to licensing issues in the centre. Views from "Gianicolo" & "Pincio" are not to be missed, as well as the main city centre sights. A day out to Ostai Anitca is also worthwhile! ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Be ready for extremely theoretical courses requiring extensive readings, but not to worry for the final grades since professors are easy on international students.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
The main improvement would be to make the courses more practical and less theoretical. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Italian How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
The communication between professors and students is good, while the overall academic atmosphere very hyrarchical. Communication for me was not a problem, as I lived with Italians and already had some good knowledge before coming to Italy. I belive, this is an important precondition for having a good time at LUISS. You have to study lots of literature and could get stressed without a certain fluency of academic Italian. EXPENSES
by NADIA, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Student loan Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
In Britain I live in my parental home & therrefore not required to contribute to major expenses such as food/telephone and accomodation. however, in host country these expenses are comparibly cheaper than in Britain. Food, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If travelling throughout the country is likely, it's much more advisable to buy a "chilometrico" ticket for the trains than individau trip tickets-it offers huge savings for distance:price. Bus/underground passes are very good value for money-around £10/month with student card. Also, check for student reductions for all facilites/entertainment. Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I think that I knew what to aspect before coming here. The fact, that I worked before as an au-pair in Florence for 2 month helped me a lot to understand better Italian culture and customs. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
