HOUSING

Environmental Sciences, University Agreement
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Even if it was more expensieve I enjoyed living in the campus. The facilities were good and it provided me with a great social experience.
Personal comments:
You can basically choose where you want to live. There are several student hostels with the description of the space offered and the facilities. You can opt for your own bathroom and kitchen or you can opt for shared ones. I found some of the student hostels more expensieve when compared to the rent you have to pay when you live in a room rented in a house that you share with other students outside the campus. ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Overal it is very well organised, with one exception though - Academic Master Cluster 1 (AMC 1). This course consists of 4 modules the students have to chose. Often they chose 4 modules and then when the schedule is published they see that the nodules overlap. In general the schedule is availbale for all the courses already in the beginning of the academic year and courses are very well organised, again with the exception of AMC 1.

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Basic phrases Personal comments:
It was hard at the beginning (0ne month), since I had no fluent english, and no idea of Dutch (dutch students always spoke it between them, then it was difficult the social life). After that time I met more international students (US, Canada) I started a friendship with. So I learnt a lot and after more than one and a half year I could speak fluently with everybody. Therefore my overall language and communication experience has been very positive, since I hope the adquired language use skills adcquired in Wageningen will give me an advantage in getting a job, either in Spain or in other european country. I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
I come from Romania, where the average salary is about 200 euro. os, living in the Netherlands was more expensieve, but I was there with a fellowship programme. Therefore, I could afford living there. Living in The Netherlands is not more expensieve then living in other EU countries. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
The study program of that year In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I´d advise everybody to go, The social life is great, but be prepared, the academic life is hard. You will not have any special treatment only because you are not from there. In Wageningen more than half of the students are international. To study there requires high dedication and motivation. FINAL COMMENTS
I´d add that is advisable to have a basic knowledge of english when you go there planning to improve it. If so you will learn much faster and will face less difficult situations This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
