Antwerp is a wonderful city where you can learn a lot and from where you can discover almost every part of western europe. It is very central. Belgium is also very beatiful, it is a pity that it is not so well known by the majority of the people.. If you ever get the chance: go there, you won't regret it!!! Read Review

HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I had great "house"-mates, I wouldn't want to miss this experience living with students from Belgium.
Personal comments:
The university does not offer any accomodation, though they are very helpful to find something. Due to the high number of students, it is not such a big problem.

Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
The ERASMUS meeting point and a graet pub: de vettige Swa. I also liked the Highlander pub, which was very cozy and the jazz café close to the campus. A real highlight is the medieval Pelgrom pub, which is in a caveunderneath the ground. Amazing athmosphere! There are tons of great pubs, restaurants and fun locations, plus, there are always events organized by student organizations

Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Personal comments:
Since the instruction was in English, I had no difficulties at all. Due to my house mates and the Dutch class, which I attended, I could cope pretty well in everyday situations and I could follow most of the times. Since everyone in Antwerp speaks several languages: English, French, German, etc, I never had a problem.
