HOUSING
by osmoses, Technische Universität Braunschweig, Braunschweig, Germany
Computer Science/IT, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Besides from there being no other choice, it was really important to get in close contact with the local students.
Personal comments:
You live closely with 7 other students in a corridor, share kitchen and a living room. Your own room is fairly big and has shower/WC. Laundry facilities etc are close and for free. Rent is not cheap, but includes everything. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
as most of the students live in ryd herrgarn is the first adress to go - also for the reasonable beer prices - on wednesday flamman serves great burger and jazz life music AND it has free entrance for exchange students all the week. downtown nationernas house is ok and there are also some non student places. but i spent most of my time in Herrgarn - international pub on tuesdays! Course recommendations:
If you want to get to know swedes do not only go to the english tought classes, you will meet all the other exchange students there, but no swedes at all (or nearly none). And you will learn swedish mch faster
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
You came here to study faster than at home? So why did you come here at all. Enjoy...don't take to many This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English Was learning Swedish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Swedish How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your Swedish?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Basic phrases Personal comments:
English is not the mother tongue here but every inhabitant can speak english...so it is easy to understand and make ourselves understood! The teachers do not always speak very good so the improvement could have been better for us...but we couldn't expect more, otherwise we had to go to England or America!!! Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
no In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
get a good study group, get to know swedes (it is possible if you try hard enough and it is worth the effort) Don't try to hard to get a master I met some people here that ended up doing NOTHING else,...what a waste of a year FINAL COMMENTS
Go to valborg in Uppsala, if you don't know anyone there or/and can't get a ticket for the night still go there it is amazing. Going up north is pretty cheap if you take either a stand-by plane ticket or the train (a bit more expensive, but you see much more).
